5-DAY SAFARI DELUXE

TANZANIA

This 5-day wilderness safari offers the experience to explore some of the best safari destinations of northern Tanzania. From the Serengeti, commonly thought of as the best safari destination in the world, to the Ngorongoro Crater, the largest intact volcanic caldera in the world, this safari allows you to experience the real Africa. Also, visit the Lake Manyara National Park and spot their famous flamingoes. This 5-day safari is suitable for anytime of the year although the roads may be difficult during the heavy precipitation period in April- May. Accommodations from basic camping, mid-range lodges/tented camps, or luxury lodge/tented camps can be used for this itinerary.

Arrive To JRO (Kilimanjaro International Airport)

Welcome to Tanzania. You will be picked up at the Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to your hotel in the city of Arusha. You will meet the company representative and your safari guide who will brief you and cross check all important travel documents.

Day 1: Lake Manyara National Park

After breakfast at your hotel, we depart for Lake Manyara National Park.  After an approximately 2 hour drive, we go straight into a game drive inside Lake Manyara National Park.   The beauty of this park is partly due to its large variety of birdlife, grasslands, forests, and the lake. Flamingoes favor this lake and at times of the year there are several hundred present. We will pause for a picnic-style lunch and resume game viewing until late afternoon when we head to our lodge/campsite outside of the park for relaxation, dinner, and overnight rest.

Day 2: Drive to Serengeti National Park

After breakfast,  we travel west, traversing Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) but not through the crater on this day. We will pass near Olduvai Gorge, an important paleoanthropological site. There is a museum here and if you  like, we can stop for a visit – note that we must make the online payment in advance to visit here, so this decision to visit would need to have been made before the start of the safari. Crossing the western border of the NCA we enter into Serengeti National Park. We will be traveling to central Serengeti (Seronera) and the game viewing gets progressively better as we approach this area. During the trip, we will stop for a picnic-style lunch before moving onward. There will be game viewing until early evening when we will go the the evening’s accommodation for relaxation, dinner, and overnight rest.

Day 3: Enjoy Serengeti National Park

The day is yours to divide between game viewing and enjoyment of the accommodation. There is an option for an early morning balloon safari above the Serengeti plains (advance reservations required and additional cost of $600/person for this option). Depending on what plans you have communicated to your safari guide, lunch can be enjoyed picnic-style while on a game drive, or at your accommodation. By the evening, we will return to the same accommodation as the previous night for relaxation, dinner, and overnight rest.

Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater

A busy day today. We wake up early for breakfast then depart, traveling back east, re-entering the NCA. Reaching Ngorongoro Crater, we descend down the 600m (2,000ft) crater wall into one of the best safari destinations in Africa. The beauty of the crater itself is worth the visit but there is a high number and large variety of safari animals here, including all of the “Big Five” — elephants, African buffaloes, rhinos, lions, and leopards. This destination is not very large though, just 20km in diameter so after 3-4 hours, all will be seen. At that time we ascend out of the crater and exit the NCA to our accommodation near the town of  Karatu.

Day 5: Drive to Tarangire National Park

On our last day together, we will drive to Tarangire National Park. It is not uncommon  here to see large herds of elephants roaming through Tarangire’s savannah grasses, drinking from the Tarangire River, or taking shade under the odd-looking “upside-down trees” (Baobab) that are dotted around the park.  In the mid-afternoon we will transfer you to your hotel in Arusha/Kilimanjaro Airport/Moshi to conclude this itinerary.
